The Danish Institute in Damascus is an independent institution. The Institute is placed in the heart of the Old Town in Damascus in a house build the second half of the 13th Century. The Institute was founded in 1995 and the restoration of the house started in 1997 and was completed at the official opening which took place in November 2000.

The aim of the Institute is to progress the study of the Islamic world as a whole, to progress and develop cultural connections between Denmark and the Arab world and to help to give the Danish society more information about the modern Arab world.
